Main Duties, Responsibilities and Characteristics:

The following apply either across all workstreams within smaller Section 10 units (e.g. combined anti-cancer therapy and CIVAS services), or to a specific workstream within larger Section 10 units or licensed services (e.g. parenteral nutrition only)*1

Compliance and Quality Management

  • Provide strategic leadership for the development and continuous improvement of the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS or ePQS)
  • Act as a senior organisational lead and formal point of contact for regulatory bodies (e.g. MHRA), overseeing inspection readiness and ensuring effective implementation of corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) in response to inspections, complaints, errors, and incidents

Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving

Project Management and Improvement Initiatives

  • Hold overall accountability for service delivery and operational oversight across all Pharmacy Technical Services
  • Provide governance and strategic leadership across the full service portfolio
  • Review and approve business cases for service development, expansion and transformation
  • Oversee the effectiveness and ongoing review of capacity and contingency planning
  • Provide senior oversight of service development and improvement initiatives, including implementation of new technologies, equipment and service models
  • Oversee the setting, monitoring and refinement of key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Support and provide oversight of research and innovation activities within the department and across the wider organisation

Represent the service at organisational and regional level, contributing as a senior stakeholder within wider system working

Qualifications

Essential requirements:

  • Level 3 qualification in Pharmacy or Science Manufacturing Technician (SMT), with significant experience in pharmaceutical preparation activities; or
  • A relevant BSc or MSc in an applied science subject with substantial experience in pharmaceutical preparation activities
  • Professional registration (e.g. GPhC, RPS, RSB, RSC, HCPC)
  • MSc in Pharmacy Technical Quality Assurance (PTQA), or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience
  • Extensive experience in pharmacy technical services
  • Extensive experience in supervision and senior line management, including management of managerial staff
  • Significant experience in service management, preferably including experience as an Accountable Person
  • Significant experience in service improvement and transformation
  • Significant experience in the development and oversight of PQS
  • Leadership or project management qualification, or equivalent experience
