Quality Technician, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality medicines is at the heart of everything I do as a Quality Control Technician within the Aseptic Department at King's College Hospital.
My role is varied and changes throughout the year. I carry out environmental and physical monitoring, support validation and qualification activities, investigate quality issues and contribute to quality exception reporting. Together, these activities help ensure our aseptic services continue to meet the high standards required to prepare medicines safely.
One of the things I enjoy most about my role is the variety it offers. Alongside routine quality monitoring, I have the opportunity to work on improvement projects that challenge me to develop new skills and find better ways of working. Being part of a newly established department has been particularly rewarding, as it has allowed me to contribute ideas, improve processes and help shape how the service develops.
I am especially proud of introducing new microbiology reporting systems that have improved the clarity, accessibility and efficiency of our data. I also developed annual quality reporting and am currently leading an automation project to make reporting more efficient and accurate. Seeing improvements become embedded into everyday practice is incredibly rewarding.
Quality Control suits my strengths because I enjoy being organised, paying attention to detail and solving problems. Although my work takes place behind the scenes, maintaining high quality standards is essential to ensuring patients receive safe medicines, and knowing I contribute to that every day makes this a very fulfilling career.
