Aseptic Services Manager,  University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

Purple pointer
Driving excellence in aseptic services through leadership, education and innovation.

I began my career as a rotational pharmacist before specialising in cancer services and Technical Services. Along the way, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and later an MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance, both of which have helped shape my career.

Today, I work as the Advanced Pharmacist for Technical Services, leading the aseptic unit at University Hospitals Birmingham. As the Accountable Pharmacist under the Section 10 Exemption and Production Manager on the Manufacturing Specials Licence, I oversee the safe, compliant and high-quality production of aseptically prepared medicines, ensuring patient safety remains at the heart of every decision we make.

A key part of my role is leading service improvement and innovation. Working closely with our Quality Assurance team, I help maintain a robust pharmaceutical quality system while identifying opportunities to develop our services and improve the way we work.

Alongside my operational responsibilities, I am passionate about education and leadership. I teach on Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance (PTQA) programmes, support cleanroom behaviour training and contribute to national professional groups, including PASG, BOPA and Safer Cancer Care. These opportunities allow me to share knowledge while learning from colleagues across the NHS.

I am also undertaking a part-time PhD, building on my research into hazardous drug exposure. What I enjoy most about my role is its variety. Every day brings new challenges, whether leading service improvements, supporting colleagues or collaborating with others to deliver safer, higher-quality care for patients. That combination of science, leadership and continuous improvement is what continues to inspire me.
