One of the things I enjoy most about working in Technical Services is the variety. Every day brings new challenges, whether solving quality issues, improving systems or working collaboratively with colleagues across different disciplines. The role continually encourages me to develop new skills while expanding my knowledge of quality assurance and aseptic manufacturing.

As a Senior Quality Assurance Officer, I provide quality oversight for our aseptic unit, including Centralised Intravenous Additive Services (CIVAS), chemotherapy and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) production. My role is to ensure that every product manufactured within the unit is safe, compliant and suitable for patient use.

A large part of my work involves maintaining the Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS). I write and review quality documentation, including deviations, change controls, microbiological investigations, and corrective and preventive actions. I work closely with both production and quality assurance colleagues, attending regular quality meetings to review issues, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure agreed actions are implemented. I also participate in internal and regional audits and help prepare the team for regulatory inspections.

I chose this career because I wanted to contribute to healthcare and improve patient outcomes without working in a patient-facing role. Quality assurance allows me to make a meaningful difference behind the scenes by helping ensure patients receive safe, high-quality medicines. It has also given me the opportunity to apply the scientific knowledge I gained through my degrees in Biology and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in a practical and rewarding way.
