Senior Aseptic Services Technician, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
As a Senior Aseptic Services Technician, I combine hands-on technical work with supervising the day-to-day running of our cleanroom team. Alongside carrying out core aseptic duties, I work closely with our Aseptic Services Operators to coordinate daily activities and help ensure production runs safely and efficiently.
One of my key responsibilities is organising the weekly production rota. This involves balancing predicted workload with staffing levels and making sure we have the right mix of skills available to safely prepare aseptic medicines. I also carry out pre-production and in-process checks of assembled batch trays to ensure they meet the required quality standards before preparation continues.
Training and supporting colleagues is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. I help junior staff develop the skills needed to work safely in aseptic services, from cleanroom procedures and isolator cleaning to hand hygiene, aseptic technique and operator validation. Seeing colleagues grow in confidence and competence is incredibly rewarding.
Alongside training members of our own team, I also teach aseptic technique to medical students and undergraduate pharmacy trainees. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping others understand the importance of quality, precision and patient safety within Technical Services.
Every day requires organisation, teamwork and attention to detail. Although much of our work takes place behind the scenes, I know that maintaining high standards throughout the manufacturing process helps ensure patients receive safe, high-quality medicines when they need them.
